First portrait of a Fire-Bender
Last night I had the gracious opportunity to make a portrait of Marisol. What is so unique about her is that she's a real life Charmander (for those that don't know pokemon, it's a fire salamander). I have to admit, it was very challenging as a photographer because there is some serious light spewing from her mouth, which could easily create an overexposure of the subject. However, it was controlled by dropping the ISO and aperture down to the minimum.
Taken frame by frame at 10 frames per second on my camera, the unpredictable, yet tamable character of fire explodes with fury. Pay attention to how close the flames reach the lips and I remember Marisol mentioning of an experience where she witnessed a man burned off the tip of his chin hairs.
An extremely dangerous skill (on herself and others) Marisol crafted with a sense of fearlessness and patience. She insists that I should try it that night, but I don't have the heart like Marisol's. Much respect for her and her craft.
I'm supposed to learn by the end of the month, she says. We'll see about that!
Maya is finally graduating! Photographed this smart and spunky, young woman at Amos Herr Park located in Landisville, PA.
